Final Project

Synopsis: I wanted to do a fun documentary about going to a Pokemon VGC Regional and the different activities that can take place. This ranges from casual events including coloring pages, purchasing merchandise, long-time friends meeting up, and competitive events such as the actual tournament play.

Concerning the tournament play, I took over the shoulder shots of the player's 3DS's as they were playing the game. The game has a lot of dynamic moments within itself which fit in nicely with the video. Normally after the games are over, all the players meet up with each other and discuss their experiences so I thought getting some footage of this after the actual games happened would have been a nice touch.

Research:

So the storyboard stayed the same, but I changed some of the pacing around in the final product. The Champion doesn't start talking until after the shots of the gameplay. I was lucky to get footage of the Champion because I wouldn't have been able to see him unless a buddy of mine grabbed him for me. I knew I wanted some very broad shots of the ballroom to set the atmosphere for how large the event is. While also getting sharp footage of the gameplay themselves to make sure they had good quality.

DSLR Camera from the Cage

The DSLR Camera worked fantastically for getting all the footage. Unfortunately, I didn't think to get a microphone so some of the talking is a bit muffled with the background noise. My Goal was to get a whole bunch of different shots that I could combine together into a flowing compilation. Mixing between fun and serious was the overall theme I wanted to go with.

I used Windows Movie Maker to create this project which worked out a lot better than I thought it would. It allowed me to combine the different shots together fluidly as well as tossing in text, music, and transitions. I would like to work with a more sophisticated video editing program in the future, but this was really nice to get my feet wet with.

Self-Evaluation: I think the final project came out pretty well, but I know that it could have easily been way better. There were some more interviews that I wish I could have been recorded and added which would've helped people learned about it more from an actual player. I also wish I could've got more footage of the actual games, but it was difficult to do the over the shoulder shots with everyone's body motions getting in the way. I did enjoy this assignment a lot and I would definitely consider doing something like this again during a Pokemon Nationals or Worlds to get even better footage.

This is my rough cut, and a short preview of my final project

This is the storyboard I plan to do with my Video Project. The basis is that the intro will be us heading into the venue with the title playing as that happens. Then there'll be some footage of the actual venue before I get an interview with the champion. After that his audio will play over footage of the venue and other events going on. Then it'll cut to actual footage of the games, and people interacting with each other

Midterm

There wasn't a whole lot I did to this image. Apart from simply photoshopping my friend into a background image, I made the background brighter and added a cool photo filter to give the lights a cyan hue to it. I want to work on cropping the image a bit better, but I think it's a bit fine right now.

Class 5

This image is a combination of three separate images. First I took the girl and copy pasted her into the background here. Then I took a darker sky setting and placed it in the background of the whole photo. Using layer mask I used the brush tool to scrub out some of the sky to reveal the darker sky to fit in with the overall theme of the image. With the background, I just increased saturation and vibrancy which got me a neat yellow-green coloring with the leaves which worked out really nice.







I didn't do too much with this one besides just adding some color correction. I selected the Sky and trees and added a warming photo filter to give off a sunset in the background feeling. There's also a hint of contrast to make everything seem a bit darker to go on with the sunset feel. Not much else to say..

With this one all I did was just add a bunch of saturation to get rid of all the darkness. It helps the bricks and the roof in the background stand out with the sharpness of the reds and blues. Also the greens from the grass compliments it well. I added Brightness to make it brighter, and color balance to make the reds, blues, and greens to stand out.



This one is the opposite where I took a brighter picture and made it darker. I messed with brightness, saturation, curves, and photo filter to make the image as shaded as possible. I wanted to go with the theme of a group of friends walking home down their favorite pathway after school during the evening.
